Hybrid Systems
New Edison Energy’s hybrid streetlights use two different renewable energy technologies: wind and solar, combining a 300W vertical-axis wind turbine and an 85-watt solar panel. The wind turbine generates electricity all day and night, while the wind is blowing, and the solar panel generates electricity while the sun is shining. The electricity that is generated is stored in batteries which power the streetlight. The streetlight can be powered for the entire night or for several hours. This is perfect for off-grid applications where there is little or no access to grid power. The system can also be tied to the grid to charge the batteries in the event there is no wind or sun for an extended period of time.
